In May of 2012, I graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. I stayed in the neighborhood for the summer, but planned on moving into Minneapolis when my lease expired at the end of August. Before making the move, I decided it would be nice of me to show St. Paul where I was going. I had lived in St. Paul for about four years at that point, and we had grown rather close. So I took St. Paul on a tour of Minneapolis, to show it why I wanted to live there, and reassure it I wouldn’t be too far away. Shortly after moving, it seemed appropriate to reverse the trip. I showed Minneapolis all of the notable and memorable parts of St. Paul so that it could understand where I was coming from.
It’s hard to say what the cities thought of their visits, or what they think of each other today, or if I managed to change their opinions of each other. Cities are complex and hard to read, and they tend to change slowly. But at least we got some good pictures, all three of us together.
